About
My name is Alex Ray and I am a native Oregonian—born and raised in Portland. I went to George Fox University and got a bachelor in engineering from there. I had a lot of hands-on experience while I was there. I was able to weld, machine metal parts, work with wood, and 3D print components. After school, I worked as a manufacturing engineer for a brief time and then moved into a mechanical design engineering role at the same company. There was a lot about my design job that I enjoyed, but ultimately, my time in the industry left me thirsting for more. I missed the hands-on aspect of school that I always enjoyed.
I was always mulling over the idea of how to utilize my engineering degree while also physically building. The other thing that adds a layer of complexity is my physical limitations from Becker Muscular Dystrophy—a condition that progressively makes my muscles weaker over time. There had to be some way that I could accommodate this condition while also doing the type of work that gives me true satisfaction.
After getting laid off at my engineering job, I decided that this transition period is the perfect time to solve this puzzle. Ray Precision Works is the result of that. At Ray Precision Works, I am able to do the kind of work that makes me truly proud. My focus is on providing businesses with custom merchandise to help extend their reach. Having your logo or your business name on a coffee mug is one thing. But having that logo engraved into a material adds that extra wow-factor that catches people’s attention—whether it is wall art, metal business cards, signage, coffee mugs, tumblers, or even just keychains. Send me an inquiry if this is something you are interested in and I will help point you in the right direction!
